Ukraine is a country where tolerance has a long way to go.. However, it is known from in-depth surveys, that in spite of the negative trends, there are millions of tolerant people in Ukraine. We just don’t see each other. To unite all the tolerant people, to make them visible to each other and – what is more important – to the LGBT community we had to create not a logo, but an inspiring symbol. RIZNI.RIVNI (DIVERSE.EQUAL) is the first visual identity designed to feature tolerant people in Ukraine. In a country where you can be beaten for holding a rainbow flag, the symbol of a raised hand becomes a sign of support. By wearing it, you can show the LGBT community that they are safe with you. A raised hand has always been a way to express your support. The symbol combines many different hands, unites them in one common expression. The sign has clear outlines that multiply inside and create a dynamic inspiring pattern. Graphically “Рiзнi.Рiвнi” are two visually similar words. The only little difference between them is the vertical line in the third letter (з and в). The words placed on different levels emphasizing the existence of different levels of acceptance (Rizni.Rivni translates both “Diverse.Equal” and “Different.Levels”). Moreover, the sign is supported by Transgender Typeface. The font lines resemble the rounded lines of the hand. Although, the ambience of the letter is clear, rigid, with emphasis on the similarity of the Cyrillic signs "з" and "в". The logo has been developed as a part of the National Public Information Campaign that promotes equality for LGBT people. Campaign was developed with participation of civil society organizations across Ukraine, namely Gender Z, KyivPride, Sphere, Educational Center for Human Rights in Lviv, Insha, Liga and support from National Democratic Institute and governments of UK, Sweden and Canada.
